Baby Updates

...on Tuesday this week, I went to the doctor for my 'gestational diabetes screening' to see if I could possibly have the diabetes that some pregnant mommies get. You drink a glass of sugary water, wait an hour, and then have blood drawn. I really thought I would "pass" this test because I very rarely eat sugar and have been watching what I eat this entire pregnancy!

However, Wednesday, I got a call saying my blood levels were elevated and showing that I could possibly have it. They needed me to come back into the office Thursday to do a '3 hour glucose test' which was NOT fun. You have to fast the night before, they take your blood early in the morning, you drink the sugary water, wait an hour, they take your blood, wait another hour, they take more blood, wait another hour, have them take more blood!

The idea is they are seeing if your blood can break the sugar/glucose up over time and process it. If I had it, I would have to go on a diet and possibly take insulin which made me nervous. I kept praying for God's will - and was ready for whatever He had in store. If I had it, I figured God was telling me this diet/insulin would be the best to keep Kent and I healthy. If I didn't, I knew He was telling me everything is OK as is, calm down! :)

So I went in for my appointment Monday. Finally, my doctor called me back and then apologized that I had to go through the 3-hour test: only 1 of the 4 blood levels they took was elevated, and it was the one they predicted - the one after I took the sugary water. My blood levels when I was fasting and after I had time to process the sugar were fine - and so I do NOT have gestational diabetes - PRAISE GOD!

I was very relieved and then he told me more happy and even shocking news, "It's time to pick the date for your c-section" (For several medical and personal reasons, I'm choosing to go that route...) I was stunned! THEN he said, "I think September 13th would be the perfect day." TEN DAYS SOONER than my due date! Chad and I then looked like kids on Christmas Day grinning at each other. The doctor asked, "Are you guys OK with that date?" Before even hesitating or discussing it, we both nodded and said "OH yeah!"

So he sent out medical forms to the hospital and pending everything is good to go with the O.R. that day, Kent will be here sooner than we expected, but we are so pleased and happy about that!

Walking out of the doctor's office, we were almost giddy with excitement and then realized we meet our baby boy in TWO months! We started thinking of all we have to get done and a million emotions flooded us. God is good!
